Clyde Eugene Ward, age 80, of Bristol, VA died peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at his home. Clyde was born on September 14, 1941 in Richlands, Virginia to the late Earnest Eugene and Sallie Gillespie Ward.  Clyde joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and served proudly for eight years.  He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia where he, his wife Linda, and their three children lived for eight years.  Clyde then drove a tractor trailer for Overnight Transportation Company for sixteen years.  He lived in Richmond, Virginia and then moved to Bristol, Virginia in 1971.  Clyde then bought his own trucks and he and his son-in-law, Anthony Fleenor, drove for Spartan and Central Transportation Companies until 2000.  He then drove for Saia Transportation Company until he retired. Clyde was an avid reader, a storyteller, and enjoyed his antique cars.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Linda Randolph Ward; grandson, Michael Evan Watkins; brothers, James “Jay” Ward, Hubert Ward and Leo Ward. Those left to cherish his memories include his daughters, Diana Sue Fleenor and husband Anthony, Karen Kay Watkins and husband Henry; son, Earnest Eugene Ward and wife Michelle; grandsons, Joshua Aaron Watkins and wife Katie, Nicholas Ryan Ward and Ethan Thomas Ward; granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Ward; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Ward will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Childers officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. prior to the funeral service.  The committal service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2022 in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
