Herbert Lee Hensley, age 93, of Bristol, VA was born March 23, 1929, and he passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022 at his home. He was a lifetime resident of Bristol, VA, a member of Campground United Methodist Church and was a founding member of Goodson Kinderhook Fire Department. Herbert was a machinist by trade and ran Twin City Auto Machine until 1987 when health issues prompted him to sell to his son, Gary. He then spent his retirement years working non-stop on the farm he loved.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Vanhook Hensley; son, Michael Hensley; his parents, Maynard and Jennie Hensley; nine siblings, Leona Dinkins, Gertrude Myers, Dorothy Rodefer, Edward Hensley, Viola Hensley, Bobby Hensley, James Hensley, Frank Hensley and David Hensley.
Herbert is survived by his son, Gary Hensley (Wanda); daughter, Janet Barker (Gordon); granddaughter, Jenny Hensley (Micah); six grandsons, Gary, Jr. Hensley (Blakleah), Steven Hensley, Danny Hensley (April), Jeffrey Hensley (Cassie), Joseph Barker (Keri), Adam Barker (Teresa); nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Services will be private. A private burial will be held in Campground Cemetery, with Pastor Ken Osborne and Bobby Griffin officiating.
