Joyce Carol Simcox Holdren, age 73, of Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born April 2, 1949 in Bristol, Va., a daughter of the late Clifford, Sr. and Ora McClure Simcox. She lived most of her life in the Bristol area and worked in nutrition for the Washington County Virginia School System for 29 years. Joyce was baptized at age 11. She was a very active member at East Bristol Church of Christ, where she taught Bible classes to children and adult ladies and was involved in the Bear Ministry. Joyce loved to cook for her friends, church family, the elderly, and providing food for those who serve in law enforcement. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Joseph “Joe” Holdren; daughter, Melissa Holdren; brother, Clifford Simcox, Jr.; and nephew, Randy Strouth.
Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Ruble and husband Bryant, Carolyn Dingus and husband Darren; grandson, Kyle Dingus; sister, Karen Strouth; brother, Tim Simcox; sister-in-law, Linda Simcox; several brothers and sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Joyce will be missed by her beloved labradoodle, Molly.
The funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2022 at East Bristol Church of Christ, 340 Bonham Rd, Bristol, Va., with Minister Floyd Bailey and Minister Tim Ruble officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. The interment will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Meade, Michael Meade, Peyton Finkle, Mike Finkle, Bill Holdren, and Darren Dingus. Honorary pallbearers will be Bryant Ruble, Darren Dingus, and her grandson, Kyle Dingus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to East Bristol Church of Christ, 340 Bonham Road, Bristol, VA, 24201.
