Ret. Army CSM James “Andy” Maurice Anderson, Sr., age 93, of Bristol, TN passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at his residence. He was born on September 24, 1928 in Hendersonville, NC, and was the son of the late John Wesley Anderson and Emma Louise Dunlap Anderson. He proudly served his country for over 31 years in the U.S. Army, in which he was ranked Command Sgt. Major. CSM Anderson was a highly decorated soldier with the following U.S. decorations: Legion of the Merit, two Bronze Stars for Valor, two Air Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, the Good Conduct Medal, and many Service Medals and Foreign Awards. After his service in the military, he worked at Bristol Regional Medical Center as chief of security. CSM Anderson was of the Christian faith.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Anderson; and sister, Margaret Pace. Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 71 years, Florence J. Millard Anderson; daughter, Katherine Goad; sons, Hall Wesley “Andy” Anderson and wife Peggy, Robert Millard “Robbie” Anderson and wife Kim; grandchildren, Brian Rutherford and wife Robin Skeen, Jesse Anderson, and Ramona Anderson; great grandson, Bailey Rutherford; niece, Becky Connor; and goddaughters, Tiffany, Tori, Christine, Angel, and Eunice; and special friends, Dennis and Mary Ann Franklin, Maggie and Helen.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, July 31, 2022 in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Todd Austin and Pastor Jim Patterson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 pm prior to the service. The burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the VA Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army assisted by the Veterans Honor Guard DAV 39. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed by clicking here.
